- Mancoccapac
- (Manco Capac)The founder of the Inca race of Peru. With his sister Mama Ocllo Huaca he descended in the neighbourhood of Tiahuanaco from the celestial regions. They had been instructed by the Sun and the Moon, their mythological parents, to proceed across country until they found the spot where a golden wedge, which they had brought, would sink into the ground. This happened at Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital, which they founded. Having brought the knowledge of civilized life to the Incas they died leaving a son and daughter. From that time brother and sister marriage was insisted on for the Inca royal family. In an alternative version, with his brothers Pachacamac and Viracocha, he came from Pacari the Cave of Refuge.
